Coastal Pembrokeshire - Coastal destinations you can easily reach from East Hook Farmhouse
While East Hook Farm House and the self catering cottage are not situated directly on the Pembrokeshire coast, there are my coastal destinations within easy reach. We have listed a few of them below and may be adding more in time. If you are looking for a relaxing time in coastal Pembrokeshire in high quality accommodation then you won't be dissapointed.
Dale
Dale is a small seaside village 12 miles from East Hook Farm. The area around Dale has an abundance of wildlife including birds, seals and dolphins. The village offers safe beaches and many of water-based activities such as sailing, swimming, surfing, kayaking and windsurfing. You can find out more about Dale on www.dalevillage.co.uk.
Marloes and Martin's Haven
Marloes is a small village about 11 miles away. The beach at Marloes is rated as one of the best in Britain but can only be reached by foot. There are good parking facilities which are free for National Trust Members. Nearby Martin's Haven is the embarkation point for Skomer Island.
Skomer Island
Skomer Island is best known for its large breeding seabird population, including Manx Shearwaters, Guillemots, Razorbills, Great Cormorants, Black-legged Kittiwakes, Atlantic Puffins, European Storm-petrels, Common Shags, Eurasian Oystercatchers and gulls, as well as birds of prey including Short-eared Owls, Common Kestrels and Peregrine Falcons. The island is also home to Grey Seals, Common Toads, Slow-worms, a breeding population of Glow-worms and a variety of wildflowers. Harbour Porpoises occur in the surrounding waters.
Boats sail to Skomer from Martin's Haven on the mainland, a 15-20 minute trip. There are limits on the number of people allowed to visit the island (currently 300 per day), so the sailings are hourly, and long queues can develop early each morning. In 2006, renovation and expansion of the lodge was begun, with the goal of developing a modest amount of accommodation for overnight guests such as researchers and volenteer wardens.
Broad Haven and Little Haven
Broad Haven with its long sandy beach is only 5 miles away from East Hook Farmhouse. The beach is popular for bathing, windusrfing and surfing. There is a large car park at the north end of the village and a smaller one at the south end. The Beach has 3 slipways which allow easy access. Shops, cafes and pubs are within easy walking distance. Surfboards, sail-boards and mountain bikes are available for hire.
A narrow coastal road connects Broad Haven with Little Haven, a small sandy cove with pepples above the high tide line. The village is a small, picturesque fishing village and pups and shops are near the beach. Little Haven is popular for diving and boating and can get quite busy on nice summer days.
Druidston Haven
Druidston Haven is only 4 miles from East Hook Farmhouse and Cottage, and has a long, sandy beach with a pebble bank above the hight tide line. It has steep cliffs on either side. At low tide you can explore along the base of the cliffs but take care not to get cut off by the rising tide. There is only limited parking along the road.
Nolton Haven
A little further on, about 4 1/2 miles from East Hook Farm, is Nolton Haven, a small south-west facing sheltered cove. It is made up of sand and shingle. Look out for the red flag - if it is flying the swimming is dangerous due to inpredictable currents. There is a Pub near the Beach.
Newgale
8 miles away from East Hook Farm House is Newgale. Newgale is a 2 mile long, sandy beach which is backed by a high pebble bank. Newgale is very popular with surfers, windsurfers and kayakers. You'll find a pub and shop just accross the road from the beach. |
